In 1995, it was decided to build the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo theatre. The building was designed by Ali Emam. Ali Emam was the deputy head of the Public Works Department of Bangladesh at that time.

Initially, it was supposed to be built in Agargaon, Dhaka. However, this decision was later changed. It is good to know that ECNEC accepted the proposal to build the Novo Theatre facility.

After completing all the systematic work, the construction of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo theatre started on July 17, 2000. Called Masud & Company as a Bangladeshi company provides the materials for the construction of this building, as well as all other important technical works, including the installation of machinery inside the building, are done by the Optics Manufacturing Company of Japan.

For some reason, work on the structure was stopped from July 17, 2000, to November 7, 2001. Later, in May 2003, the construction of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo theatre was completed. Finally, on September 25, 2003, the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo theatre was established.

The building named Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre was built at a cost of Tk 120 crore. The structure was initiated by Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. The structure has been built by mixing ancient classical and modern construction styles.
